Who doesn't love a good success story? If you haven't already, check out Vine video star Shawn Mendes, who put his singing clips out on social media and is now enjoying massive success, thanks in huge part to a legion of fans who "liked" his videos so much, he got a record deal.The 15 year old, who lives in Toronto, has been posting Vine videos of himself singing since last year - those six second clips drew quite an audience, it seems. Sunday, when Shawn released his debut EP Life of the Party, it bumped up to number one on the iTunes charts just 37 minutes after being available.
Shawn told Mashable:"I posted a six-second clip of me singing 'As Long As You Love Me' by Justin Bieber in August and it was an overnight sort of explosion. When I woke up and I had 10,000 likes on that video, I was like, 'What is going on?' Social media is taking off. It's an entire new world out there."
Couldn't have said it better ourselves, Shawn. Do not underestimate the power of social media.
In addition to burning up the iTunes charts, Shawn has 1.5 million Twitter followers, almost 3 million followers on Vine and is touring with Austin Mahone.
